Assessment 1: Report: External analysis case study
Word limit: 1800 (+/- 10%)
Assessment overview
Reports are used in many fields to communicate information in an organised and structured way. Case studies are one kind of report involving examples from the field, which are analysed to illustrate particular trends, issues and/or concepts. Typically, case studies are developed in order to generate theories and understandings that may then be applied to similar cases in the field. A successful case study analysis identifies relevant similarities and differences between the two cases (i.e. the subject of the case study and the subject or topic to which it is being compared) and makes recommendations accordingly.
External analyses allow a company to evaluate factors outside the organisation that could impact on its success. These factors include the economy, the competition and new opportunities. The first chapter of the eText introduces eight major external domains, each of which potentially has critical implications for the chosen organisation. It also provides a model of an organisational life-cycle that explains the typical challenges a company faces as it grows and develops.

Assessment details
You are required to conduct an external analysis case study of a mature organisation or company of your choice.
To do this, you need to:
• analyse the eight major domains of the organisation’s external environment and provide a brief assessment of the organisation’s current Life Cycle stage.
• formulate an entrepreneurship strategy to deal with the identified issues.
The analysis is to be presented as a business report and must include descriptive explanation as well as critical analysis.
The report should use the following structure:
1. Introduction.
2. Identification and description of significant driving forces in the eight major external domains and whether they present opportunities or challenges for the organisation.
3. Assessment of current life cycle stage and implications for innovation.
4. Summary of main points and implications.
Please note that you are not required to come up with individual strategies to deal with the issues identified.
Preparing this external analysis case study report will help you identify and evaluate high impact factors the organisation should consider when formulating an innovation and entrepreneurship
