# Identify the data set and summarize the sampling design.

The write-up of your plan will inclue the following components:

1) Research question – State the research question that your analysis will address and explain its importance. Note that the research question should be exxplicitly framed as an actual question and should be appropriately answered using analysis of these survey data. The research question must fall within the broad parameters noted above, on vairation in physical and mental health, health care, and health behaviors by social and economic characteristics. (Note that this broad area provides very broad concepts, which you must narrow here and then operationalize in parts 4-6.) You should also include a few sentences motivating this question. In other words, explain why this question is important.

2) Identify the data set and summarize the sampling design. Provide a thorough description of the data set and data collection. The description should include, for example, the name of data set, the institution(s) or individual(s) who collected it, when, where, and how the data were collected (i.e. sampling design), the survey design (e.g. cross-sectional), the response rate(s), and whaat population(s) the sample is representative of (if any). (Summarize this information in your own words; do not quote from the appendix section on sampling from the final report.)

3) Analysis- Descirbe and justify the analytical sample(s) that you wouuld use to address your research question. State your hyphtheses that will guide the analysis. Explain why you have those hypotheses. In other words, explain why you expect those concepts to be related in those ways. 4) Independent variables- Identify at least 3 independent variables that you would use and explain why you chose them. (Give the questions and reponse options verbatim for each variable.) In other words, identify the concept(s) you are examining and houw particulat questions (variables) operationalize those concept(s). 5) Dependent variables- identify at least two dependent variables that you would use and explain why you chose them. (Give the questions and response options verbatim for each variable.) in other words, identify the concep(s) you are examining and how particular questions (variables) operationalize those concept(s). 6) Control variables – identify at least three control variables that you would use and explain why you chose them. (Give the questions and response options verbatim for each variable.) In other words, identify the concept(s) you are examining and how particular questions (variables) operationalize those concept(s). 7) Limitations- describe any limitations in the sampling design, available measures (questions) or anything else for addressing your research question. If possible, describe what would have been done ideally. For example, if you note a problem with a question from one of your measures, provide a better question that could have been used instead.
