Topic: Parental Abuse and Long Term Effects B. Issue: How parental abuse can affect the long term development of a child. C. Thesis: Parents who abuse their children, can cause negative long term effects on their child’s development. II. Victims of Child Abuse suffer from Mental Health Issues. Child abuse affects a person’s mental health as they get older and develop. A child can develop a strong sense of guilt and believe that they deserve the punishment. Higher risk of psychiatric disorders: Depression Anxiety Isolation Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Anger management III. Child Abuse Can Affect Social Skills A child may not be able to trust someone else later in life. Isolation can lead to a child not wanting to leave their comfort zone. Children who are abused may feel worthless once they are older because of the neglect and abuse they witnessed at such an early age. IV. Exposure to complex and chronic trauma can result in persistent psychological problems. Brains develop over time and through interaction with the environment. The process of sequential development of the brain and, of course, the sequential development of function, is guided by experience. Neuroimaging demonstrates differences in children who grew up with child abuse. V. Conclusion: The abuse faced as a child has long lasting effects on the victim, as it is seen to influence victims both emotionally and physically. A child’s developmental growth is hindered from a young age and has the ability to affect social skills. This past abuse has the power to affect relationships formed as adults.
